Write a Science Opera (WASO) is a creative professional development approach to creative, inquiry-based science education informed by the arts. Participants gain first-hand experience creating original educational performances directly related to and inspired by the science curriculum for students. The course is designed for science teachers; teachers of opera, music, drama and visual arts; and other stakeholders, such as headteachers, scientists, and policy-makers, wishing to expand their experience with cross-disciplinary educational settings. The focus of the training in August 2014 will be on the science curriculum of pupils aged 10-14.

Dates: 3 August (arrival, afternoon) – 9 August (departure, morning)

Place: Stord Haugesund University College (campus Stord), Norway www.hsh.no

Course costs: registration fee of 400 NOK (appr. 45 EUR)

Travel and accommodation costs: not included – educators from Europe (apart from Norway) are eligible for EU mobility funding, with the application deadline of 17 March 2014 at 12 pm CET (midday Brussels time). Formal course qualification: European participants will receive 10 ECTS granted by Stord Haugesund University College’s Faculty of Teacher and Cultural Education (ALK); all participants who successfully deliver the final assignments online (video documentation of the applicant’s own project after the course; written reflection about the process) will receive a diploma (bachelor-level) signed by the course arrangers (CREAT-IT Comenius project)
