NYU's New M.A. Programme in Art, Education and Community Practice

The Department of Art and Art Professions at Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, New York University announced new 34-crdit MA programme in Art, Education and Community Practice. This innovative MA programme joins two existing MA programmes in Art Education. It combines art, education and social activism in a way that it catalyzes social change through arts, and prepares artists to have social and pedagogical impact as well as to be educators of creative practice.

The programme is primarily intended for studio practitioners, educators, community organizers and social activists in order to inform them how they could address the audiences and communities with whom they collaborate. It offers a unique opportunity to work with practicing artists and educators in community-based and neighbourhood environment. Students have the opportunity to design and implement community-based projects in collaboration with vital cultural and educational organizations committed to the groundbreaking artistic traditions of East Village in New York.

The programme is flexible and can be completed either in 12 months as a full-time student or in two years as a part-time student, according to one’s preferences.

Scholarships are available.

Application deadline is 1st February 2014. For more information please see the web page of NYU Steinhardt.
